Who Invented the Computer is a Complex Question

Who Invented the Computer

The question of who invented the computer is actually a very complex question. After doing a little research this is what I concluded.

The Chinese invented the abacus somewhere between 2600 BC and 300BC, which is a non-mechanical adding machine. Chinese merchants and clerks mainly used them.

In 1782 J.H. Smith came up with the idea of a difference engine in theory only. He never built one.

1822 Charles Babbage, a British scholar, picked the difference engine theory up and began building one. 1834 and 1869 he produced an improved design called the Difference Engine No. 2. Due to the mathematics of the system it is accredited as father to the digital computer. The Difference Engine was a mechanical computer not electronic.

Now the first modern computer was invented during WWII by a German engineer name Konard Zuse in 1941. This computer was called the Z3. This computer was the first fully functional program-controlled electromechanical digital computer.

Through research this is what is found, but many more people are also associated with the development of the computer. Depending on whom you speak to you probably will get a different answer.
